Small is not a stage we are trying to leave. It is how the work stays good.
Every layer between a client and the person writing the code costs something in accuracy.
Two people can hold an entire system in their heads. That is a real engineering advantage, not a limitation we are apologizing for.
It also means we take on fewer projects than we are asked about, and we say so early.
